Ignored: Despite Warning from BCCI, players break the rules and face the problems
Since the final loss of World Test Championship (WTC) against New Zealand, Indian cricketers were on a three-week break before playing against England for the five-match Test series, starting from August 4.
Since the Indian cricket players are seen in Wimbledon, Euro and other hotel cum party gatherings, Jay Shah, secretary of BCCI had warned the cricketers to not go out as the rising cases of Covid-19 related to Delta variant. He also indicates that the vaccination does not provide immunity.
All the team members have been tested on July 14, 2021 before entering into bio-bubble.
Despite the efforts and warnings a player of the Indian cricket team in England has tested positive for the Covid -19 virus.
Another player was suspected but has now been cleared. Other teammates and support staff who came in contact with him were kept in isolation for three days.
From various Indian media reports citing Rishabh Pant is the player who contracted the virus. Pant who has contracted the virus is not experiencing any serious symptoms and he isolating at an acquaintance's home for the past 8 days. Pant was tested after he experienced a sore throat.
As the rest of the team are going to enter “bio-bubble”, Pant can join the team after completion of isolation period and obtaining negative result. Until otherwise he could not travel to Durham, where the rest of the team are entering “bio-bubble”.
Meanwhile, England Cricket Board also affected by rising cases of Covid-19 in England. Last week, confirmed that seven members including three players and four staffers had tested positive. It led to overhaul of the England ODI squad, with Ben Stokes being appointed the captain of the team.
India and England then begin a five-match Test series starting 4 August.before that Indian team is scheduled to play a tour game against Select County XI from 20 July.
